Tunis the capital lies on the remains of the notorious ancient city of Carthage, founded by the Carthaginians in the 8th century BC, which was destroyed by roman conquest. Today Tunis is bustling modern capital filled with fast-moving yellow taxis packed full with vendors of antiques, pottery, carpets, perfume etc. Tunisia has lots of beaches complemented with luxurious resorts like Hammamet and Nabeul, however I have heard that there might be new rules introduced to make travellers get visa before travelling, so check with the authorities.
