The world of Arabs and Africa collide in northwestern African country of Mauritania. The Moors who are known in western culture for occupying Spain for a few hundred years were prominent in this area, and there culture is still prominent. At the southern end of the country the majority of the population are Tukulor Africans and this has created a tug of war between the two people. There has been political unrest for years and even though it is an Islamic nation there are some friendly western laws which is great for tourist. The country is famous for its nomadic people, however the south is very permanent with agriculture set up on the Senegal River.
Mauritania has just under 800 km of seashore coastline and beautiful sandy beaches. There is however a lack of facilities at the beaches, if you go to larger cities such as Chinguetti, Nouakchott, Nouadhibou and Atar they have a better tourist infrastructure from guesthouses, transport and Hotels.
