In the Balkans in Southeast Europe, Overlooking the hilltop tourists who stand at the Avala Monument can see the monuments of this thriving city. Recently damaged in the war, Belgrade is recovering and is a fantastic place to stay. Go check out the nighlife along the river, where about 20 riverboats sit static on the river with the latest party songs playing to the early hours of dawn. Most travellers come from near by regions, there are some fantastic nature reserves to check out too.
Feast on traditional pork recipes, with a shot of rakia, the local plum brandy. Western tourism is not popular yet, but I can see Serbia getting more popular as time goes by. One of the best attractions to Serbia is the Exist Festival which happens once a year to the north, which showcases some excellent bands and is well worth seeing. Drawing numbers of over 200,000 people over four days and some big international performances. Novi Sad, in northern Serbia is the most affluent areas, the wealth here is tremdous. Originally the Hungarian region of Serbia before the first world war.
There are some excellent museums here in belgrade including the Tesla Museum, which was the famous scientist that had more patents to his name then any other. There are a number of ottoman era fortresses and a number of cafés and restaurants showcasing the cultures that were prominent in this area at a time. The Roma(gypsy) are very prominent in Belgrade, and you can often see them in the streets collecting scrap or going about there everyday needs. Overall Belgrade is a great city to visit and should be put on your list for European travels if adventure is in your sites.
