1. Athens
Athens is most
popular tourist attraction and is famous for its many archaeological sites, the
Parthenon on which is one of the most famous places sits beautifully in the
blue sky of Athens. From the Acropolis to historic areas such as Plaka,
Thission and Psyri show the preserved old houses with a blend of traditional
shops. There are also good beaches only a few kilometres from the ruins.
2. Tinos
Trinos an island just northwest of Mykonos, is a very popular island where 90% of the visitors are Greek. The island is not focused on tourist but Greeks, it’s a feeling of authenticity and good times on this island that makes it such a great place to go. A beautiful church of the Megalochari sits on the small hill, and is a centre of attention to a fair, which happens every year on August 15.
3. Crete
Crete is the largest Greek island, with about two million tourist coming each year. Heraklion is the capital and is renowned for diverse landscape. The Minoan ruins at Knossos is amazing, so is the Venetian fortress of Rethymo. The Byzantine Empire also put some nice monasteries here that are worth looking at. The beaches and mountains are great and add to the beauty of the island. The real Crete is in the north part, which has not been touched by tourism, and you can get cheap accommodation packages.
4. Santorini
Many tourists are dazzled by the island’s beauty. Santorini volcano creates incredible contrast, with sunset’s lit villages. Expect explosions of tourist that are attracted by the stunning images of the awesome island could be the most romantic place in the world.
5. Mykonos
Mykonos is famous for its nightlife but Mykonos has hidden surprises, originally a Venetian settlement, has been given the name “little Venice”. It is amazing place to be and is world-renowned.
6. Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki was the co-capital of the Byzantine Empire in post roman days, now one of the largest cities in Greece. More cosmopolitan than Athens, and attracts a younger generation of tourist that enjoy the laid back approach. There are many nice restaurants and a good nightlife too, the Turkish baths are also very popular too. It is so cultural due to all the occupants over the years.
7. Corfu
Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands and is beautiful. spectacular landscapes, with monasteries and churches. Historical monuments and Gouvia Bay where can enjoy many water sports, diving and many other things.
